Board of Directors

Howard M. Felson, Chairman
Howard is Vice President & Counsel at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co, where he provides legal and business counsel to the country’s oldest and largest partnership bank. Howard began his legal career in the corporate securities group of the firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and later practiced in the Private Equity & Venture Capital Group at Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Before practicing law, Howard spent two years as an analyst at Morgan Stanley Japan, where he analyzed proprietary risk and trading profits/losses for traders of Japanese securities.

In the last several years, Howard has volunteered hundreds of hours to NY-based non-profits, offering guidance in financing, operations and legal matters. Howard holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Michigan Business School and a JD/LL.M from Duke Law School, where he was a member and a publishing author of the Duke Law Journal.

Moshe Bellows
Moshe has been working in the nonprofit world for more than a decade and frequently lectures across North America, Eastern Europe and Israel. Currently, he is the President and CEO of Bellows Communications, a non-profit consulting firm, which specializes in business development, process analysis and program development. As an attorney, he also counsels clients on the social and legal issues unique to the non-profit sector. In addition to his for-profit work, Moshe donates his time and leadership expertise to several nonprofits: by serving on the Boards of Directors of Project Extreme, the sole outdoor therapeutic adventure program geared towards at-risk Jewish adolescents, and the Manhattan Jewish Experience, a community-based outreach organization; and as vice chair of Dor Chadash, an organization which bridges the social and cultural gaps between Israeli and American Jews.

Prior to his entry into the nonprofit world, Moshe served as Regional Vice President, Acquisitions & Business Development for First Health Care Associates, a healthcare company owning and operating Skilled and Intermediate Nursing Care Facilities and Assisted Living Facilities. Moshe holds a bachelor’s degree from Yeshiva University and a law degree from Fordham University. He also has received his rabbinical ordination. In his “spare” time, Moshe has earned a certificate in Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy.

Nir Altman
Nir is a Director at American Express. In the course of over 8 years with the firm, he has worked in various industries including Technology, Media, Pharmaceuticals and Financial Services. As a volunteer, Nir has been involved in the Big Brothers program and others for several years. Nir holds an MBA from New York University with concentrations in Strategy and Finance.

Jeffrey Schlanger, Technology Manager
Jeffrey designs and manages software systems as Director of Software and Systems Development at Teach for America. Prior to his entry in the non profit world, Jeffrey developed software solutions at Paine Webber, InvestorForce, and Jupitermedia. Jeffrey has also worked on a number of volunteer and consulting projects, including NYBlueprint.com, HowsMyNanny.com, and JICNY.com. Jeffrey holds a bachelors degree from Penn State University.

Dan Abelon
Dan currently resides in San Francisco, California, where he runs www.SpeedDate.com, the world's first online speed dating site. Prior to moving to the West Coast, Dan worked as a strategy consultant at IBM Business Consulting Services in New York, advising companies in a range of industries. In the past, he also served as a management consultant at the World Bank in the Philippines. During the past few years, Dan has performed volunteer projects in the U.S. as well as in Ghana, Ukraine, and Thailand. Dan holds an MBA from Stanford University and a BA in economics and philosophy from Columbia University.
