Teach! Learn! & Share! - Docents at Mission Houses Museum

Project Description:
The Mission Houses Museum, one of four accredited museums in the state of Hawai`i, is looking for volunteers who want to help visitors and kama`aina alike develop a better understanding of Hawaiian history. Docents give tours of the historic houses, greet visitors and more. There are opportunities to learn new skills, meet fascinating people and inspire minds both young and old and continue your own education through various tours and special programs. Mission Houses Museum is where the Hawaiian alphabet was first developed. It is where Queen Ka`ahumanu visited her friends and where Princess Bernice Pauahi was married to Charles Bishop. The Christian faith was first shared with the Hawaiian people here. As one of the most important historic sites in Hawai`i, you can still feel the mana of this place where so much happened. Interested? Call Mike Smola at 808-447-3914 or email him at msmola@missionhouses.org to register for one of two fall Docent Trainings being offered at the museum either Session 1: Thursdays, August 5 & 12 from 10 am to 1 pm or Session 2: Saturdays, August 7 & 14 from 10 am to 1 pm.
