Description:
The Boys and Girls Resiliency Mentoring Program pairs high-risk and at-risk youth with mentors. Mentors meet with the youth on a weekly basis and participate in positive, pro-social activities within the community. The goal is to provide youth with a positive role model and pro-social connections within their communities. Mentors help their mentees with independant living skills as well as social skills. Among other things, mentors provide homework help, help with interviewing and job skills, educational guidance and vocational guidance. Mentors serve as an outside support system for the youth. 180 Degrees also provides group mentoring for the at-risk and high-risk youth they serve. Groups address a myriad of topics such as anger management, making good choices, cognitive skills, healthy ways to deal with stress and stressful situations, self esteem, peer pressure and drug awareness. The Boys and Girls Resiliency Mentoring Program offers groups to both male program participants and female program participants. Topics are gender specific to the group, as such, groups can address problems and issues each gender contends with in daily life. Staff works with the referral source (i.e. probation, Child Protection, Children’s Mental Health, etc) to provide the best services possible for the youth. Working closely with mentors and across the various systems helps to bring continuity to the lives of the youth we serve and leads to better long-term outcomes, especially with respect to case plans/management, improving family dynamics, improving school involvement and citizenship.

Mission Statement:
Turning lives around to ensure safer communities.
