Description:
Circle Tail is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 1997, located 30 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. Circle Tail's mission is to provide high quality assistance dogs to people with mobility, hearing, neurologic or psychiatric disabilities and promote the human-canine bond in the community by providing dog adoptions, obedience training, behavior management and boarding services. Circle Tail receives dogs through donations; we do not have our own breeding program. Careful selection of puppies and adult dogs from unwanted litters, family releases, and area shelters and rescues not only helps disabled persons, but also provides purpose to an otherwise unwanted dog's life. We also promote responsible pet ownership and provide a better quality of life for homeless animals through our adoption program.
Circle Tail dogs are provided initial socialization in a foster family's home or through our Inmate/Puppy foster program. We utilize both short-term and long-term foster families. The puppies/dogs come to Circle Tail and/or one of 5 Ohio Correctional Facilities for basic and advanced obedience training, which is reinforced by the foster family. The dogs routinely return to Circle Tail or the correctional facility for more advanced training and evaluation. We currently have no waiting list for assistance dogs, nor do we charge recipients a fee for the dog, other than a nominal $25 application fee. All of our funding comes through public contributions.
