Description:
Young Haitian American Professionals Society (YHAPS), Inc. YHAPS is a volunteer community-based organization that promotes educational, professional, and personal development of Haitian high school students. The organization is committed to empowering students to realize their academic potentials, to become professionals, and to contribute toward a better society. Through mentorship program, YHAPS helps teens adjust to academic and social life in Stamford. YHAPS' motto is a helping hand toward a better future. The organization was founded in 2005 by Stamford High School alumni, Flavie Noel Sanon, who was moved to help Haitian students transition into life in America. Coming from a humble beginning herself, she recounted her own struggle to learn English when she arrived from Haiti and wanted to help other students to have a smoother transition. As the first generation in her family to graduate from high school and college, she believes education is vital to success and is dedicated to sharing that message.

Mission Statement:
The mentoring portion of the program is centered on these four values: Dream, strive, grow and achieve. YHAPS is partnering with Stamford Public Education Foundation to provide mentoring training and resources in order to carry out this service. The EAGLE program will inspire students to dream of a better future, strive for excellence, and create opportunities for students to grow and achieve their goals. Each student will be assigned a mentor who will drive these values: ?? Dream o Inspire each student to dream of a better tomorrow o Encourage creative and innovative thinking o Emphasize the importance of higher education ?? Strive o Challenge students to aim for higher goals o Expect accountability from students, parents, and staff o Promote positive parental involvement ?? Grow o Provide tools and resources that enable students to achieve academic success o Provide life training to students and parents o Create opportunities for students to lead and to volunteer
