Description:
When Isabella Uhl passed away at the young age of 27, her parents founded Isabella Geriatric Center in Astoria, Queens. Miss Uhl was deeply concerned about elderly women who didn’t have children to take care of them as they aged, so IGC was created to help them. In 1889, the IGC was moved to its present location in Washington Heights and expanded to serve men and women without regard to race, religion or nationality. In 2005, the phrase “Geriatric Center” was dropped from the name in order to include the many other services and programs that Isabella offers, including a child day care, youth development, outreach and short-term rehabilitation.
Mission Statement:
It is the mission of Isabella to provide quality care through diverse programs designed to promote health and independence within and beyond our walls.
