Volunteer As A Tutor! Help A Child Reach His Potential!

Mary’s Center for Maternal & Child Care, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide quality and culturally appropriate health, social, and educational services to underserved families in the Washington, DC metro area. Mary’s Center is currently seeking dedicated volunteer tutors for its Homework Helpers Tutoring Program. The Homework Helpers Program provides free tutoring in reading, math, and writing to children and teens of the Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights communities. Our main goals for this program are to provide one-on-one attention and create a positive learning space for the children and teens who participate. The program will run Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4-6pm. We are looking for dedicated volunteers who have the patience and poise to tutor students whose reading and math levels may not be up to grade standards. We are also looking for tutors who can commit to volunteering at least once a week for two hours for a continuous period of 12 weeks. No previous teaching or tutoring experience is necessary. Volunteers with Spanish-speaking abilities and/or previous teaching experience are highly encouraged to apply. All interested candidates must attend a training session to start volunteering.
