Ray Alvarez has been running Ray's Candy Store at Tompkin's Square Park in NYC for over 30 years.
Now, and in this tough economic environment, the NYC Food Commission is trying to shut him down. If he gets shut down, like the rest of the New York cultural icons, his place may get replaced by some only for profit mongering interest. Ray Alvarez is a Alphabet City cultral icon himself. He has been serving New York habitants and tourists for 24 hours a day since the 70s. He has made it through the thick and thin of things in New York.Go there and see for yourself. He is one of those dying breeds of unsung grandpas that we only we all can't help but love. A good man and a good friend. He needs your help now.
