Adult Literacy Tutor
Project Description:
| |
Tutors volunteer at least one hour a week in Adult Basic Education classes focused on reading, writing and math or English for Speakers of Other Languages. Tutoring takes place one-to-one, in small groups, or the tutor may serve as a classroom assistant. Classes meet mornings, afternoons or evenings - we will match you with a class to meet your schedule and interests. Training is provided.

Additional Skills Required:

Volunteers should enjoy working with people and learning about other cultures. Knowledge of other languages (especially Spanish) is helpful but not at all required. We provide training and support.
For volunteers wishing to tutor math, a good understanding of basic math (fractions, percentages and decimals as well as basic algebra and geometry for higher level classes) and ability to explain and demonstrate mathematical ideas is very useful.
