Mentors Needed

Project Description:
The Power of Girls is a mentoring program coordinated by Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council for middle school girls, respectively, that focus on leadership, the importance of higher education, and career exploration. Female volunteers are needed to work in pairs to mentor a team of 10 girls. Mentors accompany the girls one Saturday per month during the school year for different themed activities and serve as positive role models. Most programs run from about 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and take place in different locations, depending on our activity for the month. All activities are led by professionals in that particular field (technology, the arts, sports, etc.). Mentors are not asked to plan or run the activities – just enjoy them with the girls and be a positive example of leadership in their lives. The programs are cost-free for the girls, and we work with schools that have higher percentages of economically disadvantaged children. Mentors are needed to work with Power of Girls programs in Mecklenburg County. Local training is provided for all programs. For additional information or to volunteer with The Power of Girls please contact Alyssa Sanders, Power of Girls Specialist, at asanders@hngirlscouts.org or (704) 731-6532.
