AmeriCorps Service Area Coordinator

Project Description:
Start Date: January 9, 2012 End Date: June 30th, 2012 Hours Per Week: 30 Position Summary: The AmeriCorps Service Area Coordinators are responsible for assisting with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance(VITA) Alternative Filing Method (AFM) operations specific to their particular service area. Position Duties: • Become familiar with and well-versed on the history and mission of Frontier and VITA • Perform outreach to increase awareness of Frontier and VITA • Develop and maintain relationships with local media, government entities, schools, churches, businesses, nonprofits, financial institutions, and other community stakeholders • Recruitment and training of additional volunteers • Assist with material creation, special events, marketing, evaluation, and dissemination of information • Act as a liaison between operations in designated service area and VITA Coordinators to report on progress, problems, and successes • Establish intake sites in designated service area • Set up of all operating systems and procedures for each intake site, ensuring all needed equipment and materials are obtained or created • Schedule and operate intake sites • Oversee and participate in the execution of AFM in designated service area • Data collection at intake sites • Collect and review taxpayers’ proof of identity and source documents • Provide and assist taxpayers’ with the completion of IRS approved Intake and Interview Sheets • Fax, scan and email, or mail copies of necessary taxpayer documents to AFM preparation (prep) site • Coordinating taxpayer review of completed tax returns and obtaining necessary signatures • Mailing signed Form 8879 and other attachments to AFM prep site • Travel to tax intake and prep sites and other locations as needed • Participate in National Service Days and other AmeriCorps activities as required • Work evenings and weekends as needed • If service area has Intake Assistants, the Service Area Coordinator is also responsible f

Training Requirements: • Complete 40 hours of IRS VITA training – January 9th-13th, 2012 in Golden, CO (lodging provided) • Complete AFM training • Complete AmeriCorps training • Complete Life After AmeriCorps training • Participate in on-going on-the-job training Requirements: • Must be able to work efficiently and productively with minimal supervision • Must be able to adapt to unexpected changes in work, timelines, etc. • Must be extremely organized and able to multitask without being micromanaged • Tax preparation experience preferred, but not required • Must be 18 years of age or older • Must have high school diploma or equivalent • Must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States • Must have working knowledge of computers, the internet, and email • Have access to reliable personal transportation Benefits: • Living Stipend of $4,537 over a 6-month period • Education award of $2,114 upon successful completion of 675 service hours • Student loan forbearance of qualified student loans during period of service • All training required for position is provided by the program • Mileage reimbursement for service related travel
