The best week of the year!
Project Description:
| |
The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Grand Rapids is hosting a summer camp that builds bridges and knocks down barriers, fostering a sense of self-worth in young people with disabilities and greater understanding in able-bodied counselors. MDA is currently recruiting volunteer counselors for its annual summer camp being held at the YMCA's Camp Manitou-Lin in Middleville, June 23, 2012 through June 30, 2012. This is a great opportunity for volunteers to receive a one-on-one experience with a child living with a neuromuscular disease. MDA camp counselors work one-on-one with campers for the entire week, providing personal care and supervision, as well as companionship at a wide range of recreational and social activities. Training is provided. This unique opportunity involves completing over 150 volunteer hours and is an excellent experience for men and wo men! Camp also gives counselors an opportunity to truly impact the lives of young people with neuromuscular diseases in a profound and positive way. Male volunteers are always in demand!
As many campers describe, camp is the one week each year when they feel like a regular kid, ‘the same as everyone else.’ I would love to talk with you in more detail about this once-in-a-liftime experience! Please contact Jessica at (616) 459-4331 for more details.
