Mentor a Teen!

Project Description:
Become a Mentor today with Leake & Watts, a community based, non-profit organization in New York City, committed to addressing a myriad of challenges that confront individuals and families dealing with poverty, disabilities, and a lack of access to education and basic services. Our Mentoring Program is a holistic-based mentoring program geared towards the social and academic success of youth. Our program connects each mentee , one-to-one, with a volunteer mentor who can provide insight and direction into pursuing their unique chosen path in life. The overall purpose of the mentor relationship is to help mentees develop positive social skills, set personal goals, and plan for their academic and professional futures. Our mentors will be a diverse group of people of different ages and cultural backgrounds, representing a vast array of occupations. Each mentor is carefully screened and evaluated prior to being matched with a mentee. Eager to share insight and experience with his or her mentee, each mentor will spend a minimum of four hours a month with his or her mentee for a period of one year. Facilitated, supervised meetings will be held from time-to-time at Leake & Watts for mentors and mentees. The meetings will consist of skill development, team building and social activities.
