Middle School Mentoring Program
Project Description:
| |
Child Safe Michigan is implementing its first Middle School mentorship program at an Alternative Middle School in Hazel Park in January 2013. The Child Safe Michigan Middle School based mentorship program runs for 16 weeks, every Wednesday for 1 hour in the afternoon, during the school day and will begin in January 2013 and run through April 2013. Mentoring classes are constructed of 16-20 Middle School aged youth and 4-5 mentors with each mentor having a small group of 3-4 youth. Child Safe Michigan staff facilitates a curriculum that is focused on assisting youth in exploring who they are and what they stand for, being their own leader, appreciating diversity, building positive relationships, setting goals, improving academic grades, and mapping out their future academically and personally. Once the daily lesson is given mentors are responsible for guiding the daily activities and formulating their own mini lesson, with the help of Child Safe Michigan staff, in their small groups.
